Reboot w/ Elah Hale
It’s time to hit refresh and reboot for the new year, and we’re here to help! Follow our Reboot series to get inspired with new goals and actions for your mind and body.
Hi, my name is Elah Hale. I’m from NYC but I currently live in Los Angeles! I am lucky enough to make music for a living, and I'm also a mom to a dog and a cat.
New York influenced me in so many different ways. I grew up there and so many of my firsts happened in and around New York. I also think I'll always be attached to the New York sound that raised me.
I think I'm most proud of simply getting through 2020. There were so many difficulties in 2020, whether it was COVID or mental health. So I'm outrageously proud of myself for surviving this year while continuing to work.
I think something big from this year was just my time. I learned to value my time but also give myself space. I was running so fast before the pandemic, and while I don't think slowing down is always the best option, I think it's often an extremely necessary one.
I'm definitely trying to leave self-doubt in 2020. I can't even begin to think of the things I could've been doing if I'd just believed in myself. Something I'm bringing into 2021 is learning how to drive, haha.
The best part about living in LA is my access to nature! I love living somewhere where nature is only 30 minutes away in any direction.
In lockdown, my style mantra is definitely comfort over anything. But I try to have a balance of fun and excitement in my clothing as well as practicality. 2021 will be all about button downs and jeans for me, as well as cowboy attire, haha.
I don't think I was always motivated; I think there were lulls which were important, but I made a point of trying to find creativity in ways other than just music. I wanted to work through my artistic issues in as many ways as possible.
I have so many different goals so it's hard to pin down an ultimate one. I really just want to be making music, and be happy doing it, and to make other people happy with it.
To the artists who want to get into the industry: keep trying. Keep putting music out there, listen to what your friends and family think but don't ever let them stop you. Also, don't get too caught up. You’re never doing your best work when you're at the peak of stress.
